Captain Jake Ballard continues to baffle us with his at-home spy activities at the request of President Fitzgerald Grant. Getting caught in the crossfire, Olivia Pope‘s leap of faith backfires when she finds out what Jake’s been up to when he’s not with her and the events that follow are shocking. After sleeping with him on a whim, at his place, over Gettysburgers, Olivia discovered his wall of surveillance of her apartment. When Fitz found her watching his screens, a minor struggle sends Olivia to the hospital. It’s not looking too good for you Jake.

Forcing Olivia to see the man and reason he’s been watching her was all too perfect. When and how he found the time to plan that plot twist, I don’t know, but who is this guy entering Liv’s apartment that neither Huck, or us, have seen before? Way to introduce a new character for the convenience of clearing Osborne’s name and further confusing us about Jake’s motives! Don’t get me wrong. Everything Jake is doing is still downright creepy and crazy. Yes the close call involved Olivia finding out and him trying to cover it up, but the even bigger close call? President Grant showing up at Liv’s hospital bedside and embracing her, with Jake watching from afar. And just how did you happen to be there so quickly to save her, Jake? Huh? Good luck explaining that. Fitz may be cruel at times, but stupid, he is not. And Olivia’s loyalties are still to the president, regardless of what they say to each other.

Meanwhile, Huck just cannot get a break! After discovering the storage locker where the latest lead takes them, he is taken out cold and locked in a small wooden crate that if it weren’t for Quinn’s Huck-like instincts, he probably would have died in. Luckily for him, she cared enough to do whatever it took to find him, even if it meant sharing her trade secrets with the sloppy security attendant at the storage facility.

Remember Molly? The girl that hysterically pointed out Osborne on television when David Rosen’s scandal was unfolding? Yeah, that was all a lie. The twists and turns are getting a bit hard to follow but thankfully, there is logic on the gladiators’ side and so far everything seems to pan out. The only factor that doesn’t make sense is Jake’s role in this. It’s hard to believe he’s the mole because he’s doing so much liaising with the mysterious guy in the park. At best, he’s the go-to for the mole. But then, are we really going to meet a new character so late in the season, or will it turn out that the mole is someone we really do know well?

Speaking of which, why is Cy still chummy with Huck’s former spy colleague who Huck almost killed for the Amanda Tanner murder? Something tells me there’s more going on with Cy we’re not aware of. And it’s not just the marriage problems. Same goes for Mellie.

Mellie’s reaction to Fitz’s question about lying all the time was so unexpected. All marriages are pretend? Right. Because happily ever after doesn’t happen…Word of advice Mellie, the next time the president throws you a bone in your already-fragile marriage, you take a long hard pause before you jump for it, since clearly your thoughts and the words coming out of your mouth only make matters worse for you.

Everyone’s personalities are finally coming to the surface. Let’s hope Olivia is as smart as we know she is when it comes to the Jake-Fitz-Olivia scandal. Nothing about it is right.
